I've got to agree. I've never flown SOPA/SMAC so I can't comment on it. I'm sure if there was a "slam dunk" answer on which procedure was better there would be data galore to support that conclusion from both pre-merger airlines operating history (operational errors, deviations, ASAP, FOQA, etc.) I am still optimistic that over the next couple of years our procedures will continue to evolve to "best practice."

All the training and check airmen he is exposed to are the same as they've always been, just the book they're operating under is different. What does cross-pollination have to do with what we're talking about here? The subject is procedures, who wrote these procedures and how do we get to best practices. All the training and check airmen that I'm exposed to are training procedures that are completely different than what we were using. We were the airline that was the world-wide launch customer for the 747-400 and set the standard for operating this airplane. Delta never operated the airplane. But it was Delta that completely revamped the flight operation of this airplane. The line pilots, check airmen and training pilots are all doing our level best to learn the Delta way operating the 747-400. But it leaves you scratching your head a lot.
