Looks nice, but why would they leave the area of the old T3 to be hardstands? Couldn't they have fit another pier in there and have some gates? Whatever, as long as long as the T2/T3 alley is gone, I'm happy.

I don't think they're going to be hardstands in the sense of boarding people, but rather just spaces for parking aircraft during the inbound/outbound Europe lull. If you notice, the T4 terminals are being expanded, gobbling up the parking spaces that are currently there.
I'll tell ya, though. That's going to be a heck of a walk between T2 and T4. And knowing JFK, those moving walkways will only be working about 20% of the time.
