I do have one question. Heard a "reach" flight in euro airspace recently. Why do those guys sound ao panicked/scared on the radio? The octave level sounds like a crash is imminent.

Cool post! Those are fantastic ideas. Why even bother with the MIL guys at all. Let them serve this country, and then forget the decade or two of intensive flight training and experience they wasted their time on. So what if they volunteer to defend our country, that is their problem. Make them start with the regionals and pay their dues. That way when we are being paid to be on reserve at the major airlines we would not be bothered by an assignment to an undesirable trip we don't want. Hey it is all about Seniority, we were here first.
Not sure about the Reach guy's octave. You could always stop by the O'Club on a Weekend night and ask how they hit those panicky high notes. Never know they might show you how.
