I ask them what is the angel of attack of this jet vs us when we are cruising out to the practice area? If they say "The same" I go onto the next lesson. If they say "MUCH greater" than I know I have a little more work to do.
I would say you still don't understand something! Please go back to each and every one of your students and ask them to forgive you for teaching them wrong information!! The angle of attack is obviously not the same when in level cruising flight to a practice area and compared to flying vertical. Not in the same plane at least!!
