Disagree.
I have worked with Ed extensively in ALPA business. Ed sat for about 10 years (along with Lance, btw) on the System Board of Adjustment. (That's who handles grievance arbitrations). Ed always did what was in the best interest of the pilot he was working for, and never let his personal opinion sway him. I witnessed this first hand. Ed is also second to none at convincing arbitrators to see things his way. He will be an excellent addition to the committee. I personally lobbied extensively for him to be on it.
Regarding Ed's reputation, like most reputations, it is bigger than reality. How many times have you flown with him? I flew with him often when I was an FO. While Ed is lacking in CRM and people skills, all he really expects of you is to shut up, quit whining, and do your job to 100% of its description in the manual. He has no tolerance for anyone who doesn't do this or who slacks off. I never had a problem with him, because I knew to be on my toes when I flew with him. Those that do have a problem with him either need to grow a thicker skin, or quit their whining and do their job. And he is COMPLETELY different outside of the cockpit. He's actually a funny, smart, and engaging guy. But when he's at work, it's all business. That's fair in my opinion.
