>ATLANTA -- UPS is hiring 25,000 drivers -- just not yet.
"As the business continues to grow and as baby boomers retire, we're looking to hire up to 25,000 drivers over the next five years," said Keisha A. Simmons, Public Relations Supervisor for UPS.
Job hunters who may have missed the time frame pushed "UPS jobs" to the top of Google's search list Thursday. In addition, some Web sites have mistakenly suggested that the positions are available immediately. Simmons says that just not accurate.
And "that doesn't mean that we're hiring drivers off the street," she said. "It's a combination of external candidates and internal candidates who will be promoted from within." <
Not to hijack this thread, but is Ms. Simmons actually saying that there are baby boomers that are working at UPS as package car, or long haul drivers? I find that hard to believe that there could be many of them, because both jobs, but especially the package car driver, is a young persons job. I can't imagine someone who is age 60 or above doing that kind of work. I'm sure there are a few, but not enough to even bother counting.
