B) For all the super premium widebody and super premium geographical bases, just imagine if we were UAL and CAL? CAL brings EWR, CLE, IAH and Guam. UAL brings ORD, DEN, IAD, SFO, SEA, LAX and I think NYC? There are so many CAL pilots commuting from DEN and LAX that will want in, I'm sure UAL pilots are not thrilled about anything other than CAL's scope.
Another messed up situation like this one... Lots of pilots here blame North and South, I'm guilty too. Reality is management closed many bases over the years, yet many of the pilots stayed out west. The senior pilots tell me about LAX being 1600 pilots strong on the DAL side at one point. Now there are 60 narrow body FOs in LAX, SNA and ONT. The reality is Alaska has picked up a vast majority of this flying. MD88 in LAX? Gone after the merger? Now many of those pilots with hundreds of thousands to several million in equity aren't ready to give that up for the sake of driving to work, hence commuting. Senior west coast pilots end up in various bases, likely flying bigger equipment while mid and junior seniority pilots ponder the cause of stagnation. The reality is scope and relaxation of codeshare has hurt nearly every pilots career. Remember, our contract says SEA isn't a hub, that has consequences that reach all the way to ATL.
