This deal seems to be getting better and better and better for the XJT folks.
They go to ASA with their XJT longevity (2nd/3rd year pay, vacation, health benefits on day 1). They are locked in for 18 months. Their XJT hire date is what is used for SLI though.

So someone who was hired 5/07 at XJT and takes the ASA deal will still have a 5/07 hire date for the purposes of SLI (just like they would if they were recalled today to XJT instead of being "hired" at ASA).

The benefit to ASA is not having to hire a bunch of new guys today when there are over 100 XJT pilots ready to go.

Literally the only reason for an ASA guy to be upset about this is if you're a 2007-2008 hire and were hoping for a big fat staple of XJT furloughees for a quick 100 spot bump in seniority (which may or may not happen). Otherwise its business as usual.
