Well , Ive been at ASA and now on 4th year pay, flew corporate before here, and just turned the big 2niner. I dont have kids or a wife and upgrade is nowhere in sight. I was on reserve for 2 years, and now am fortunate to hold somewhat of a decent line the last year or so and I do just fine BY MYSELF. I like ASA, its a good place to be (for a regional), but when I got on here at 25 years old and from there it was 2+ years of makin s--t money (now is somewhat decent pay, 4th year lineholder) you have a lot of ground to make up in my opinion. Esp When your buddies are crunching numbers and making 40k + with bonuses right out of the gates. Thats what sucks. After all of the hard work of getting to this point and even with only having one mouth to feed and pay off loans and stuff it is a lot to think about getting into this career. Of course it is a very tough time in the industry with little or no movement. Yeah its all about timing but still theres no reason to fly 10 million dollar machines around at 500 mph with long days and crappy skeds for barely 45k if your lucky 4 years into it. If your on reserve its much less and yeah there are pilots here that have been here just shy of 3 years that havent even come close to holding a line , i cant imagine what the paychecks look like for them. Makes ya wonder.........I cant imagine (esp with the Colgan crash shedding the light on regional flying) how many kids coming up really wanna come do this no matter how much fun it is at times. I think in a few years the airline industry is going to be in a very tough struggle to find pilots
