That was exactly what happened to me. In fact, my first day on the job as a CFI was on 9/11.
I was in a C-152, on my 2nd flight ever in flight training as a student. My 2nd entry in my 1st logbook was signed by my instructor stating "9/11 Terrorist attack on the World Trade Center". Talk about a sobering way to start a career choice
