Last PC locked up and I needed something NOW, no reasearch. Walked into Best Buy, walked out 10 minutes later with the Mac.... still as fast as the day I bought it, firefox has locked up MAYBE 5 times. Runs like it was brand new.
Sure you can spend half as much, but like all things in life you get what you pay for.
Dell and HP...there's your problem. Nuff said. Bash away...it's your money. I'll put a $600 or $700 ASUS or Toshiba against an Apple any day for a "on the road computer." After 5 years, I can buy a new one (if necessary) with whatever the new current tech is and still be around the $1200 for the original MAC. Like I said before, not trying to start the old PC vs MAC war. Just giving the OP something else to think about. Check out prices at Newegg.com for some good comparisons. Yes you get what you pay for and sometimes you pay for a name.
