All I know is I have seen a massive explosion in the number of RJ's on the ramps, expansion in the number of gates they occupy, and the replacement of city pairs that used to be exclusively or almost exclusively served by mainline and are now exclusively or almost exclusively served by RJ's.

Maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but the numbers should tell the story. You just have to make sure you are using numbers that tell the whole story, not just part of it.
Just a hair under 700 airframes in the DCI fleet and a little over 100 at Alaska. Our "feeders" and "code share" partners combined are larger than quite a few other airlines, including Delta.
