Could anyone explain what is illegal about buying a watch or other good in Asia and bringing it back with you? It seems to me that you're just buying something. Are these goods illegal in themselves for some reason?

I just can't see why you're not allowed to buy a watch. (??) Is it something to do with copyrights or trademarks?

Nothing wrong with buying a watch that doesn't claim to be a Rolex when it is not, a knock off Rolex is a Illegal as a pirated movie or a set of Golf Clubs that claim to be Callaway when they are not, one guy got in trouble here in Narita for that recently, they confiscated the fake clubs and slapped him with a heafty fine.
