There was a time when the sky was a magical place for much of the human populace. Knowledge of the sky went perhaps a few thousand feet upward, and beyond that no one really knew what was there. Church architecture tended to point to the sky as though going a few thousand feet one might find their concept of God lounging on a cloud. Things were simpler then. Nowadays, human believers must adjust things to acommodate the advances of science. Still we may believe, but placing our belief system a few miles over the surface of the earth is no longer feasible. It may have worked for thousand of years yet suddenly our deities must be orders of magnitude higher than before. The airplane going through the cloud does not care about any of this, yet it is a heavenly machine in a way.
