I think its to create the illusion of representation. Skywest management is very anti-union so my guess is by having a group like SAPA in place its one more way the company can try and dissuade people from unionizing.
I agree. With a vote split so 50/50, Skywest management has obviously been able to "divide and conquer" the pilot group. It's hard to gage what the overall attitude of the pilot group is as far as making Skywest a career but from that kind of division, my bet is that there will be a massive exodus when the hiring resumes.
