The drive is 6 hours and there are like 50 flights a day PHX-LAX. But then I read on here how much reserve commuting sux, and I think maybe holding a SLC37N at 63% and a line would be better?

Any advice you guys might offer would be great, this is the first real reading I've done since the old furlough lists and I don't really know/understand the reserve requirements vs. lineholder advantages.
Thanks!
Glad to hear you are coming back. Are you coming back strickly from mil leave or from furlough bypass? There are no planned new hire classes for the Feb 2011 time frame if you are on bypass. Maybe some hiring later in the year.

I strongly recommend the 73N position if you can hold a line in SLC. That position in category may put you in reserve status during the winter months but should make you a line holder when the schedules ramp up. With the current hiring you may be above the 60% mark by the time you come back.

Commuting to reserve is most undesirable. All international categories will subject you to 24 hr short call which makes the commuting that much worse. With no mainline flights PHX-LAX you will not be able to reserve a JS.

So it boils down to the quality of life that you want. You will have a choice and that is always a good thing.
