Bought an iPad yesterday. Very cool. I bought the WIFI only version. Didn't see the need for a 3G capable one. I'm very happy with it. Much nicer then lugging my laptop around, plus no putting it in a bin at security. It can just stay in my bag!!
Not sure if all your layovers have WIFI, but if they don't you can get an Airport Express to use on the road. I did this and it works awesome for hotels who are only hard wired.
