As a junior pilot at Delta, I'm happy to hear the news of profitability because profitability historically leads to continued hiring. That means more pilots below me. But what's more important to me is SCOPE because that is what, as you say, is a big factor in when I upgrade.

Note to management: scope is expensive, but so is having your passengers have a less-than-stellar travel experience on an outsourced carrier. i.e.-there are some good business reasons for bringing more flying back to mainline.
