FWIW, I think I got more rest when I commuted half way across the country. You cannot stop home life when at home, but commuting forces you to leave and focus on you.
Very good point ACL Of course a commuter can have a horrific commute making for a long day. It's the responsibilty of the individual to be properly rested. Commuter or not is irrelevant. What the FAA/NTSB don't want to address is that the FO & CA did NOT sleep in a hotel or crashpad because they couldn't afford it. How about mandating a livable wage?
