That IMHO is a flat out safety issue. Its a matter of time before it causes an incursion due to missed transmissions, etc. New deliveries have the issue fixed so its purely a money thing. Record profits, it would be a cheap fix, and one accident cancells out millions of years worth of "costs" for fixing it.
That is why the procedure was changed for the A320. The pilots call the FAs to verify the cabin is ready for departure. This prevents interrupted radio transmissions.
