Well, I guess you do not arrive at the airport before the checkpoint opens. I see those guys going though and getting their stuff screened all of the time. It is not every time, just the first time at the start of a shift.
I see them with their backpacks, lunch coolers, coats hung over their arms - go thru the metal detector, set it off and continue on their merry way - at the start of a shift because I just rode in on the bus with them.
As Carl said, it might be location dependant.
