My advice: get a job with an Air National Guard or Reserve unit. Even if it's not a flying job, it will help pay the bills and Federal Law helps keep your schedule from getting screwed up.
If you can get an ANG/Reserve flying job on the side, you're golden. More money, quicker hours, great contacts, flexible schedule.
