Boys...let me tell you why Delta pilots wear double breasted uniforms. Have you ever seen a Delta pilot walking the concourses with a uniform coat unbuttoned?...No?, well neither have I. It`s just too sloppy looking, and the guys don`t do it. A single breasted coat is an easy thing to leave open. I do it with all of my jackets. All of you boys do it...don`t deny it...I know you do. Look around the next time you go aviatin` and you will see what I mean. Years ago our (read Delta) pilots got a committee together, paid some "twinkle toes" to pick out a new uniform for us. The MEC presented the pictures to our then president, Charlie Dolson. The boss`s comment was "I don`t care what you wear as long as it`s double breasted, dark blue with brass buttons". Well, that settled that. We all know that you don`t fly one bit better in a uniform than you would in a flight suit or jeans and a T shirt. The name of the game is "perception". That`s a fancy word for "let`s fool the public into thinking we are more professional than the other guy".
