As of right now, we're getting all of our information from the news, which is getting it from law enforcement. As a result, we're only getting one side of the story..the "hammer's" side. Law enforcement is under no duty to present a "fair" or "balanced" account of what actually took place...that's what the courts are for. Moreover, when it comes to truth, members of law enforcement are not always the choir boys we wish them to be. By that I mean that they are known, on occasion, to LIE.

(If you can find a copy of Rodney King's arrest report online, go back and read it. The cop's original version of King's arrest differed substantially from what was being recorded (without their knowledge, obviously) on videotape. In fact, it differed enough to send most of the cops involved to prison, and to make Rodney King a very wealthy man.)

Unlike many of you, I don't personally know the individual charged in this. He may well be a perv. But there is the possibility that he is a caring and concerned father and family man who thinks he's been corresponding with a youth who has been turning tricks on the street to escape a broken or abusive home life. And unless there was some specific language in their chats regarding specific acts and/or payment for same, that may well be what was intended.

The point is, I don't know the whole story, and I don't think any of you know either. All I'm suggesting is that you withold judgement until all the facts have come out.

BINGO! As a cop, it's called creative writing. I'm not always proud of what my co-workers put in reports.
