When you have a medical condition, then who will advocate for you when you try to get your medical cert back? ALPA will.
When you make a mistake and and find yourself in legal trouble, who will make sure you have a legal defense? ALPA will.
What insurance products will an inhouse union provide? None.
Is ALPA perfect? No. It has it's issues. I dont think in house will provide for much. There are a lot of things I do not like about ALPA but at the end of the day I think they are the best option we have. It is about much more than the CBA for me. Any union can get a contract. The quality of your local depends on your MEC and the unity the members. Not every union can provide the other benefits that ALPA offers.
If we had an Express, ASA, and Sky West group, you can bet that ALPA National would take notice. That's a very large group. I think a group that size might make ALPA pay more attention to the needs of the regional carriers.
My point is, in house might be alright as far as getting a contract. Its not going to provide the other valuable services you will have available under ALPA.
