EVA is probably the worst paying expat job in Asia. Last I saw (about a year ago), they were offering about NT100,000/month base (USD3,000) plus about NT850/flight hour (USD26). So in total you're looking at ~USD4500-5000/month.
A couple of friends canceled their interviews after receiving emails with the pay info. When they called the recruiters and told them why they were canceling, they were told "Yeah, we get that a lot".
For lower time turbine experienced, non-type rated pilots, EVA is a decent option and will include a wide-body type with heavy international flying experience. The pay is far better than what most regional FO's are being paid. I can see your point being entirely true for an experienced Captain with type ratings. It's slim picking for experienced regional FO's with tons of turbine SIC time...and the 2-3 year training bond might be good timing for a return to the US when the hiring picks up.
