If you read the gouges you will do just fine. Most of the exam questions are covered in the existing gouges. It is just stuff that you should know anyway. There are no trick questions like, "Who would you contact if you saw a UFO?"
The topics for the paragraphs are all covered in the gouges too.
You can't study for the cog test.
And the sim ride is straight forward too. Just relax and fly. It is an airplane, just like anything else you have flown. The sim is not overly sensitive and flies really well.
The sim profile looks something like this.
Pay attention to the briefing and ask questions. Everyone is really nice and helpful.
1) Normal Take-Off.
2) Climb to 5,000 and level off at 250 KIAS
3) Climbing turn left or right to 8,000 feet, level off and maintain 250.
4) Intercept and track outbound radial from a VOR.
5) Left and/or Right 360 degree turns with 30 degrees of bank, maintain 8,000.
6) Direct VOR for holding. Enter hold and fly one turn. (DON'T FORGET TO SLOW TO 230 KIAS HOLDING SPEED)
7) Vectors for ILS. Hand fly ILS with raw data to 600' and execute a normal landing to a full stop.
Good Luck!!!
