You should have no problem whatsover, as NY is generally the most avoided domicile amongst newhires.
As long as you can avoid getting the ATR in training, you should be able to get JFK/EMB or LGA/CRJ right away (or get a transfer awarded while in training). I wouldn't count on getting LGA/EMB, though. We are still overstaffed there by about 20 FOs.
If awarded any jet position, your worst case scenario would be having to commute for 2 months, perhaps. In all likelihood, it probably won't even come to that.
