Your supposition infers that NK has some desire to be a good corporate citizen. NK has no such aspirations.
Additionally, I think the returning guys accrued some longevity while furloughed. Not much of a cash difference, but remember, we are talking about a company that charges three bucks for a bottle of water. And, for a few years, removed 1/2 - 2/3 of the lighting at HQ to save money.
