I was at fault in an accident about 5 years ago (nothing major), I must've paid some extra money and gotten it taken off my record, because I just recently got a copy of my record sent to me and it's not on there. Do I still have an obligation to include this in my driving record? If so, I would just have to guess at the date it occurred and all other details. Advice?
This has a lot of variables.
How old are you, what state do you live in (if the USA), or what country, etc.?
The thing to do, is to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles, or whatever it's called where you live, or their web site, or call them, and find out what the differences are in the report you got, and the one an employer gets...
Here in Oregon, for example, the DMV report a person can get will only go back three years, and there is no way to get a longer history. However the police can see all the way back to when you first applied for a drivers permit, and employers can get a 10 year history.
Normally, an honest person will list the incident, indicate that the date is approximate, and if it needs explanation, will make a note and explain. A dishonest person will often be asked at a later date to explain why they didn't list the incident on their application, and will have to explain both the attempted deception and the incident, and at this point their statements are suspect.
