How are the "trips" calculated? What kind of rigs do you guys have?
I think that the only way we can really compare it is to break out W-2 totals. Some guys work the system all year, and some guys just work their lines. You're not going to really understand the pay system unless somebody gives the famous new hire powerpoint presentation. Because of the use of trips rather than hours, the average swa guy bids for "flight trips" rather than hours because flight hours represent legality problems and trips represent pay. We have something like 7 different types of open time and trades. We even can get cell phone texts now with available open time, and respond with a text to bid on it if wanted. We can do rough explanations of what our rigs mean, but the meaning loses the context of the trips for pay system. I know that's as clear as mud, but the only way you're really going to understand our pay rate is to get a pay total for the year and divide it by the number of days we work and flight hours we log. Good thing we're just starting to work on our taxes.
