Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the use of cellphones on aircraft is not prohibited by FAA regulations, notwithstanding a company's GOM. It is an FCC rule.

I still hear this often, but it is only when ATC transmits. The older phones can cause interference with radio transmissions, but I used to hear it in my desktop speakers too.
