In my opinion the culture that I believe you are talking about has not existed for about two decades at least.

I am all for helping people because it is the right thing to do - but it has nothing to do with company culture. The only company culture that I see is that we (employees) are costs to be minimized. What did one of our fearless managers (we don't really have leaders) say - "I lost sleep worrying that we did not take enough from the Pilots in BK."

I am sure that I am coming off quite bitter, but I am not - its just the way it is, and you will realize it too eventually. When I was hired I was probably the biggest Kool-aide drinking "company man" that you could imagine. Straight out of the military with foolish notions of loyalty and devotion - I would walk through the 727 picking up trash on turns - more senior pilots would just look at me and shake their heads.

I still enjoy working at Delta and espesially enjoy the great Pilot group we have but I really disagree with you regarding the culture at Delta.

Lets see how good the "culture" is in about two years when we are in section 6.

Scoop - Rant over
I will put your rant down as just that. You are confusing management/employee relationships with what she is talking about. There has always been a somewhat rancorous relationship there. The culture was one where the pilots stood and said goodbye to the people that paid our salaries... where we helped the occasional passenger that was having a little trouble with some nitnoid thing... Do the FAs HAVE to put your meal on a plate? No.. they don't.. Is it nice? Damn skippy it is. It is civilized. You don't have to help put their bags in the overhead, and like Brocc said.. they should not expect you to.. but does it really hurt you in any way to occasionally do that? Hell.. just do it for the young pretty ones if you want to... I am guessing that you are exhibiting this bit of bitterness because you were furloughed.. and your solution is to take out your frustrations on those that truly pay your salary.. or those that you work with. Is that really where this is all going? Are we really that shallow? Do you really want a work environment where we all hate each other... your philosophy starts us down that road. And the last thing is... when we are going into section 6.. it will be in your own best interest to educate the other employees as to the situation rather than enter some kind of passive/aggressive staredown.. maybe they would be a little more understanding if they were a little more understanding. It's up to you.
