I'm not a CAL pilot and can only speak for the 757 Pratt vs Rolls part of your argument. I flew for ATA years ago and we operated B757's with both Pratt's and RB211's.
Rolls was lighter engine, produced more thrust and had a lower fuel burn. Obviously this gave us greater range, load and takeoff performance. We were always happier showing up to work and seeing an airframe with the RR's hanging on the wings.
