I did some research on the internet and low and behold, they were right. Just be smart enough to Google ‘real inflation rate’ . But what we need to look at is the cost of living here in Memphis is not as high as most places in the U.S. I know some people live on the coasts where it is more expensive, but Memphis is cheap living. So really those annual inflation numbers don’t actually affect us as much here in Memphis. And we are a Memphis based company. If you chose to live away from the home base, then that is your choice. I listened to a group of guys in the AOC two nights ago, and they were arguing the negotiating committee basically got a partial contract set up that mostly dealt with the FDA’s. But that is what the company needs. We have to think about FedEx as a company and how it can grow internationally. That is where we are making the most ground now. The company learned (after the fact) the Hong Kong set up was inferior and that is why they couldn’t fill the slots. It took the huge pain of 4.A.2.b to get guys here and up in Anchorage to cry uncle and bid Hong Kong. And even with that I don’t think they actually filled it (don’t quote me). And those guys are bidding back now because it is better back here. I don’t think anyone would debate Germany and Hong Kong are more expensive than here. I just went to Italy with my wife and son for ten days and it is still expensive over there in Europe (especially food). And Hong Kong is supposed to be expensive too for Asia!!! So the company and the negotiating committee came up with a plan to offset those costs so we would bid those FDA’s. It all sounds good. I am already saving for high school as Christian Brothers is almost $10,000 a year. FedEx is helping out and giving tuition assistance at the FDA’s because I am sure it costs more over there than CBHS (maybe grade school is cheaper). Now pilots with children can bid to those two bases. I am sure $5000 is more than adequate or both sides at the table would not have accepted it. The company needs to fill those bases. I just think we need to look at the big picture and be happy about what we can get. That 3% can start paying us back for what we lost with 4.A.2.b. as soon as we get this new contract in place.

(Please put the crack pipe down and step away from the keyboard) I know that we took it in the shorts with 4.A.2.b but FedEx management took a pay cut too (I remember reading that, do you?). (Maybe you should take a pay cut since things are so reasonably priced in Memphis?) And we are a Memphis based company. If you chose to live away from the home base, then that is your choice. (I'm sorry I just don't believe that. If the company really didn't know it was a bad deal is was because they hadn't done their homework ... again!) . It took the huge pain of 4.A.2.b to get guys here and up in Anchorage to cry uncle and bid Hong Kong. And even with that I don’t think they actually filled it (don’t quote me). (But ... you have the option in Memphis of sending your kids to public school ... the FDA folks do not!). . FedEx is helping out and giving tuition assistance at the FDA’s because I am sure it costs more over there than CBHS (maybe grade school is cheaper). Now pilots with children can bid to those two bases. I am sure $5000 is more than adequate or both sides at the table would not have accepted it
