You would be spot on.....This wouldn't have anything to do with CAL's 'close' relationship with Boeing at that time would it?? (rhetorical BTW).

Let's see....Gordon is VP with Boeing 1988-1994, then jumps over to CAL to become CEO from 1994-2004. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Bethune

Just the facts.

Continental Not ONLY flew the EX-Eastern 757's but Flew their A300's as well. I watched them LEAVE in one color and come Back in another. The CAL Mechanics worked right Next to us in our OWN hangars at SFO On those VERY airplanes. As well as on the CAL DC-10's. They didn't fly the L1011 as I recall. And I never did know what Eastern's DC9's did except park in the Desert But Evergreen Air center at Marana Az. Was doing Bigtime Painting of Eastern's A300's and 757's And cranked them OUT like Hotcackes Where they changed the Tail Logo ball from Black to Red on the Gold Field before Lorenzo got booted out of airline managment all together!! Then Bonderman came in with Texas Pacific and also brought in Gordon Bethune and Company. The New Global Logo came in under the Bethune administration. (and frankly though I love the (blue/White) UAL "Tulip" logo, the Globe Really Is a Nice Logo with a Very simplified and Understated Paint Scheme. It lends itself to Cabin options and a full range of Colors until we settle on the Grey leather Seat Covers and some Ungodly Uglified Carpet pattern you wouldn't put in your Dog's house!).
And some Form of Blue pilot Uniforms That look like they come off the Rack a Kmart or Robert Hall. Because GOD FORBID we should EVER look like we have some "Panache" and Style!!)
