Giggity.
I really have an issue with the "if they don't like it in East Bumblescrew they should just move" line.
It's very easy to wave a hand and tell other people that they are "free to move." People may not want to move for whatever reasons they may have. Home is home. It's incredibly expensive to move. There's a sense of place, a support network, maybe that family has been there for generations, or a myriad of other reasons. If a local entrepreneur starts up a business in East Bumblescrew, and he wants to stay there and help improve his community and hire local people in his far-flung town, that in it's own small way will help the nation.
So yes, I'm ok with my tax dollars keeping some rural communities connected to the national air network. Sure, as with every issue there are some places that maybe don't "deserve" service due to proximity of other towns with dependable service, but there are sure a lot of towns that do deserve it. I've been in and out of all sorts of EAS towns (no longer, however), and it was an appreciated service.
Regardless, hypothesizing that families should "just move" as if it's as easy and painless as eating cherry pie is spoken from an envious position of privilege and security or a position of social isolation.
Good conversation and good points. Good weekend, everyone.
