It's very easy to wave a hand and tell other people that they are "free to move." People may not want to move for whatever reasons they may have. Home is home. It's incredibly expensive to move. There's a sense of place, a support network, maybe that family has been there for generations, or a myriad of other reasons. If a local entrepreneur starts up a business in East Bumblescrew, and he wants to stay there and help improve his community and hire local people in his far-flung town, that in it's own small way will help the nation.

Regardless, hypothesizing that families should "just move" as if it's as easy and painless as eating cherry pie is spoken from an envious position of privilege and security or a position of social isolation.

Good conversation and good points. Good weekend, everyone.
Nobody is forcing them to move and nobody is forcing them to stay and quite frankly, the expense of moving for them is not my problem. If EAS is the thing that keeps them in that town then that's just another strike against it in my opinion. I think people have this sense of responsibility to help people who don't need help. Even if people do need help, that sense of responsibility is your own and should not be transferred to me through the use of federal tax dollars. For the record, I have donated many hundreds of dollars to people in need all over the world throughout the years because I felt the desire and ability to do so. I am not rich, I make less than $20k/yr, and I made that decision for myself. The government has no right to make it for me but they do it all the time. EAS is charity plain and simple and federal tax dollars (my money) should not be used for charity that I don't support.
