There's that "Become an Engineer and home every night" line again. I know the pilot profession sucks, but so do the others. Nobody is immune right now.
Some professions (and their job prospects) suck substantially less than others.
I personally know a half-dozen engineers (mechanical & electrical) who, in the last 6-9 months, found a new job after less than 4 weeks of unemployment.
