It's being handled just like every other SLI... slowly. Some low level rumors, banter, and conjecture amongst the 10,000ish of us all on the sidelines. No one really has a clue.
So far, the interesting points have been:
- UALs guys are older, they want to protect their 747 pay band & pilots, and they have more widebodies.
- CAL has more new jets being delivered and more on order (787, a few 777s, and some 737s).
- As of March, all CAL furloughees will be recalled. UAL still has about 1,400 on the street. No one has a clue what will happen to UAL's 1,400. Some people think that the UAL guys will get stapled, others think that they will get ratioed in but not allowed to displace a current working CAL pilot, so they'll essentially remain furloughed until a vacancy opens up. After returning to work, they'd be senior to a lot of junior CAL guys.
- CAL had (has?) a plan to employ furloughed UAL guys, but no one has the slightest clue how that would impact SLI.
- UAL and CAL guys unanimously agree that Smisek is a POS so we got that going for us.
- In all honesty, it seems that the 2 groups have refrained from too much mudslinging - I've talked to a lot of other CAL and UAL guys and so far no one seems to want to screw the other group.
- Just like about every other arbitration out there, it'll probably end up being decided by an arbitrator in another year or 2. Or 3 or 4. Who knows.
