SLI aside, it will help if you think of it this way. The management team at CAL has always seen pilots in just one of two categories:
hostaged or not hostaged. They had 147 hostages here, now they've got 1500 there. They cynically use them for leverage. SLI or not, the sooner we get all the hostages back the better!
