If there is nothing they can do to you then you know you're getting released but you should still call to avoid any hassles. Some schedulers get a hard-on by punishing pilots for stupid things so just play their game and call. You'll learn pretty quickly when they can and can't assign you a trip. I've called a million times while on the interstate home. I know I'm going home that night but I still satisfied the requirement to be released.
