AA,
This also effects people that have a secondary line consisting of trips and R days. This happens fairly often. Most of the time the R days are filler for your line. But it also creates a "mini-RLG."It's happened to me several times, so I know it can happen.
The fact is that this is a change. It isn't "codification of current practice." The lost greivance concerned someone that had vacation and reserve. This also created the mini-RLG in this case, and the current contract allows for this to happen since it was a line consisting entirely of R days.
How many will it effect? It's hard to say, but I'd say that 10 or so MD-11 FO (MEM) have this hybrid type of line. How many system wide? Maybe it effects about 100 or so pilots a month (Secondary lines and custom lines). I guess it depends on how many custom lines are built (usually due to initial training).
But it is a change, it's not codification. I'd appreciate getting accurate information from the union. I'm not saying they are lying to us, but I think they don't seem to have the information that I'd like them to have. Especially when they are writing our contract language.
