I've been told living in base while on reserve is not so bad because you cut out the commuting problem. You sit at home until the call instead of sitting in a crashpad, so hopefully the arrangement will ease the experience of reserve and being the F.N.G.
Absolutely correct, and a wise move. You'll thank yourself every day you are on reserve, and you'll thank yourself when you can finally hold a a sh*tty uncommutable line. And then you'll thank yourself when you realize you are able to easily trade trips to get the days off that you want, since you don't have to worry about trading into something that's commutable, or that only gives you a day off between trips, or that ends too late to catch the last flight home, etc. And then you'll thank yourself when the weather goes to hell and you end up having an unexpected day off, or three days off, or they cancel your first or last turn and you can just go home instead of being stranded in the airport or crashpad or whatever miserable place you find to kill time.
