My thoughts as well. What if some type of common component was considered faulty for example, thereby grounding the entire fleet for a period of time? I would think you would want to maintain some sort of leverage over an OEM by not having an exclusive relationship. The government won't do that. In the mid 90's, the 737 should have and deserved to be grounded due to a faulty rudder. That would have grounded everyone's favorite low cost carrier (yes they were a lcc back then). It didn't happen.
