Yeah, I'm in the same boat. From what I recall we went negative bank when they paid us 80 hrs during initial training. Since most of us sat on reserve quite a bit we never paid it off. That bank transferred to Delta and we carry it over. I think that's how it went. I'm finally going even bank now.
The negative bank happened the first few months on reserve. NWA tried to pay everyone 80 hours/month. Reserve was only 75 hours/month. After the first three months of not flying very much, you would be -15 hours (the maximum negative bank at NWA). It wasn't a big deal as the NWA bank was in dollars, not hours.
