I guess I'm just playing devils advocate here, but honestly, why the hell NOT (given the appropriate time and place)?! A doctor puts "MD" behind thier name because they're supposedly an expert in thier field. A licensed social worker puts thier credentials behind thier name, as do P.h.D's and people with Master's degrees. Why wouldn't a CERTIFIED flight instructor do the same. Obviously, the former(s) require a considerable amount of academic work, but I don't think there's a disparity between the amount of PRACTICAL work we do for that certificate. It is a serious commitment, and a small "fraternity."
Using your examples, I don't know a single MD, Social Worker with at least a Masters, or a PhD who started at square ONE and finished approximately 6 months later with all of their "certificates"
