It's all about seniority...

Non-PBS: It gets better as you get more senior. You bid for pre-built schedules for the whole month (or 28-day bid period). Even if you're senior it can be a challenge to find a good schedule which has all of the days off you need if you have kids, other job, etc.

PBS: The bottom line-holders get hosed except for one thing: With PBS you can normally get a particular non-holiday day off. With hard lines you might have to take a crap schedule for the whole month just to get Tuesday the 3rd off your kid's school event. PBS offers more flexibility for almost everyone.
That is too generalized. This is not the case at XJT. It's pointless to answer this question because the answer will be different at every single carrier.
