"Who knows" would be a good answer to the first question. I would hope that the Union would recognize the impossibility factor in attempting to determine exactly who was damaged and how much damage was done. For example, how do you determine the damage done to someone like me, someone who never bid for a conflict line because I didn't want the uncertainty surrounding my schedule, but who was damaged nevertheless because the circumstance denied me some of the lines?
I would suggest that a lump sum settlement be distributed to all pilots regardless of seat or seniority. Or maybe the Captains should just give it all to the FO's, after all, that's essentially what we did with our signing bonus, right?
