I looked at the report for MEC meeting costs. I do understand that it costs money to hold these meetings. I bet you could get a much better rate by holding these meetings at the same place. A bulk purchase deal. Frequent user points. Theoretically, the meetings move around because the MEC wanted each base to have the opportunity to see their union at work close up. But, given that most of the meetings take place in closed session, the meetings could be held in one place.
I am of the opinion that it is grossly inappropritate to drink on the Union's (our) dime at these business meetings. I don't expect DAL to pay for my liquor. And, I don't expect to pay the union to drink either. Actually, I am surprised that you see coffee, water and soft drinks served at LEC meetings. Buy your own drink if you are thirsty.
I suggest that it might be appropriate to offer a resolution to prohibit dues dollars being spent on any spirits. That would include all of the "hospitality" rooms at ALPA meetings, too.
